Bloomsburg Splits Doubleheader with Ship; Lynn Just Shy of Perfect Game
GAME ONE BOX SCORE
GAME TWO BOX SCORE
BLOOMSBURG- The Bloomsburg University softball team split a doubleheader with conference rival Shippensburg, winning game one 4-0 and losing game two 8-5 in eight innings. In game one Ashley Lynn (Riverside/Danville) tossed a complete game shutout and was just four outs away from a perfect game.
Lynn out-dueled Shippensburg pitcher Kelly Tiesi to give the Huskies the game one victory. Neither team could manage a hit until the bottom of the fifth when the Huskies broke out for four runs. With runners on first and third and two outs, Shippensburg centerfielder Heather Chantiles misplayed a ball off the bat of Kelly Zarski (Paxinos/ Danville), allowing the Huskies to take a 1-0 lead. Tara Reed (Williamsport/ Williamsport) then hit a two-run triple to extend the lead to 3-0. Jen Miller (Muir/ Williams Valley) then singled home Reed to make it 4-0. That would be enough for Lynn, who dominated the game, allowing just three hits and striking out ten. Lynn was perfect until the top of the sixth with two outs when Shippensburg's Chantal Gross got the first hit of the game. The Lady Raiders would add two more singles to load the bases but Lynn worked out of trouble by striking out the final batter of the inning. Lynn then pitched a perfect seventh inning to close out the game.
In game two, the Huskies trailed 5-4 going into the final inning when Lisa Bohner (Northumberland/ Shikellamy) singled home Reed with a one-out single to tie the game. However, Shippensburg rallied in the top of the eighth, scoring three runs in the inning to take an 8-5 lead.
Reed was 2-5 with a home run and two RBI while Bohner was 3-4 with two RBI in game two.
Bloomsburg, now 26-12, 10-5 in the PSAC East, will travel to Mansfield on Friday at 2:30 p.m.
